The AP is reporting today that e-mails obtained by the Associated Press, gathered by federal prosecutors, outline the gameplan followed by Abramoff and associates.

Money, money, money - basically.

From the story:

"Abramoff's team repeatedly discussed donations as the reason Republican leaders should intervene for the Saginaw, the e-mails show."

What's that? The REASON Republicans should take action? MONEY.

Again, from the story:
"Abramoff then turned to Republicans, including Sen. Conrad Burns of Montana, to overcome the administration's objections and secure $3 million specifically for the Saginaw when the GOP regained control of the Senate the next year."

Senator Burns was the one they wanted, and he's the one they bought.

U.S. Senator Simon Cameron (Whig, then D, then R) once said that an honest politician was one who, when bought, stays bought. Senator - are you still for sale?
